The local auto industry is going through troubling times with sales reduced by 47% during the first 4 months of the current fiscal year compared to numbers from a year ago. Only 39,700 units were sold in 4M-FY22 compared to 74,952 units sold during the discussed period in FY21.
The massive slowdown is attributed towards high car prices, slowdown in economic activities, shortage of vehicle production due to curbs on the import of CKD parts, reduce purchasing power and tightened auto financing conditions.

However, while most of the local assembled cars have seen their sale cut into half, the Pak Suzuki Swift is enjoying some very handsome sales numbers. The reason is the launch of new generation Swift after a hiatus of over a decade of presence of the globally retired 2nd gen model, which was always seated at the bottom of domestic sales chart.
The popularity of new Swift can be easily analyzed looking at its sales numbers. During the first 4 months of previous fiscal year, 489 units of Swift were sold averaging around 122 units a month. However in 4M-FY22 (July to October), 3,466 units of Swift were sold averaging around 867 units a month. This renders a massive 610% improvement in sales for the new Swift in Pakistan.
Although the 660cc Suzuki Alto remains the highest selling car of Pakistan, but even the Alto is suffering from 35% decline in sales with numbers falling from 20,773 to 13,464 units during the first 4 months of the fiscal year.

Launched in February 2022, the Swift is available in 3 variants with the GLX CVT being the most equipped hatchback ever to be assembled in the country. After a couple of price revisions, the new Suzuki Swift is currently available from PKR 31.8 lac for the base GL variant to up to PKR 37.6 lac for the flagship GLX CVT version.
